Taoism
I am not a Taoist nor do I completely follow any one religion.

Origin
Taoism is an ancient philosophy from a man named, Lao Tzu. Lao Tzu is simply a title translating to, Old Master. His actual name is not known. Lao Tzu was said to be born sometime between late 6th Century BC and early 5th century BC. He was a philosopher and curator of the royal library for the state of Chu in ancient China.
As the story goes, Lao Tzu was displeased by what the warring society of his time. Lao Tzu announced that he was going to go live alone in the wilderness for the rest of his life. On the way out of the city's final gate, a gatekeeper stopped him. As worldhistory.org says, "Yin Hsi asked Lao-Tzu to write a book for him before he left civilization forever and Lao-Tzu agreed. He sat down on a rock beside the gatekeeper and wrote the Tao-Te-Ching (The Book of the Way of Virtue)."
Tao Te Ching is pronounced, Dow-Deh-Ching. and Taoism is pronounce, Dow-ism.
Tao Te Ching
The book that Lao Tzu wrote for Yin Hsi was called, Tao Te Ching. A book describing how to live in harmony and live as a virtuous person. The book its self is said to be written sometime in 5th century BC, 500 years before the year 1 AD. This is the book that provided the base philosophy which birthed Taoism.
The Tao Te Ching is the second most translated book of all times, translated into 250 languages, only exceeded by The Bible.
The Tao Te Ching consists of 81 verses, being a relatively short book which wastes no words.
Below I will show you how this 5th century wisdom has been echoed through the ages by some of our most known philosophers.
